The 3rd Shogi World Championship Tournament - Classification Procedure

Classification Match

  • All games in the Classification Match are played in Hirate(even hand). The time control is 20 minutes/30 seconds.
  • We will divide players into groups, each of which consists of four players.
  • 1st round will be played among the players arranged by drawing (e.g. 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4...)
  • 2nd round will be played matching winner vs winner, loser vs loser.
  • 2-0 players go to World Championship Class (A Class), 0-2 players go to C Class.
  • 3rd round will be played only among 1-1 players. Winners of these games go to World Championship Class, and losers go to B Class.
  • If a group has only 3 players, the players with no opponet gets the bye.
  • After the above classfication match, the draw for the Finals including the seeded players will be made.

Finals

  • All games in the Finals are played in Hirate (even hand). The time control is 20 minutes/30 seconds (except the World Championship Final).
  • All classes are played by tournament (elimination format). World Championship Class (A Class) is expected to begin their 1st round at 15:15 on Saturday, and B & C classes are expected to begin their 1st round at 8:45 on Sunday.
  • Losers in the 1st and 2nd rounds of World Championship Class will play consolation tournament in Sunday morning.
  • The World Championship Final will be played after all other games are finished, with the time control of 30 minutes/30 seconds. The game is expected to start at 15:30 on Sunday.
